A spell follows an unnamed character through three seemingly disparate moments in his life. We join him on a small Estonian island, in isolation in the majestic wilderness of Northern Finland and during a concert in Norway.
The three sections focus on respectively: COMMUNE, SOLITUDE and BLACK METAL. In COMMUNE a group of people are living together in an intentional community in Estonia, eating, taking saunas, working together - talking about what it means to live together communally. In the SOLITUDE Robert A.A. Lowe is living alone in Northern Finland, finding mushrooms, fishing, burning a house. In BLACK METAL (THE PHENOMENOLOGICAL MOMENT) we are submerged in a dark and loud live show, the steadicam camera gliding around the musicians and audience in a continual shot, individuals living in the moment, alone within a communal space.
